If you want to get into some form of motor sport, but are absolutely appalled by the costs concerned, perhaps you have overlooked Go Kart Racing. OK, nothing is cheap anymore, but go karting is relatively cheap compared to its far dearer cousins like Formula One, Formula Drifting, NASCAR and Cross Country Rallying. You can get into go kart racing as a spectator, as an investor in a team or as part of an active team as a mechanic or driver.

Or you could use go kart racing as a spring board into the dearer kinds of motor sport. You can learn a lot about driving, designing and constructing cars by starting with go karts. After all, the principals are basically the same, but the parts in karts are a lot cheaper.

In the remainder of this article, we will take a look at some of the components and safety aspects of go karts along with rough typical prices.

The first thing you will have to investigate is the type of kart you want. There are different degrees as there are in other motor sports. as a beginner, you actually should begin with the low powered karts, because you will have to learn a lot of new driving skills and quite a few safety regulations before you move on to more powerful karts.

If you find the cost of a new kart a little high or if you want to leap-frog past the lower stages of karting as quickly as you can, you could think about buying a second hand kart for the first couple of stages, just buying a new one once you reach the stage of karting that you want to be at. However, do not make the mistake of trying to run before you can walk.

Entry level go karts are not expensive. For example, at the time of writing, a battery operated go kart costs about $300-$400+ while a petrol powered kart will be $600-$700+

Although go karts have a very low centre of gravity and do not tip over easily, it can happen and collisions do occur so wearing the proper safety clothing is vital. Again, you could purchase a second hand set of racing safety clothes, which are in essence the same as for motorbiking, if you only want to get going on the cheap.

You will require a jacket and trousers or a one-piece jump suit; a helmet, gloves, a neck-collar and boots. This little lot could set you back anywhere between $300 and $400, but it will save broken bones or worse, especially in the period a couple of months after you begin when you think that you know it all. Accidents occur once individuals become over confident.

You will also need a couple of common spare parts, a spare tyre, fuel and oil, say $250 and you are ready to take your first lessons in your own go kart. Or maybe you would rather learn in someone else’s kart first? This is not a bad thought, because it will give you some experience with different types of karts, which will help you choose which one you want (or can afford).

There is no doubt that Formula One racing is a gripping motor sport for those interested in cars, speed, engineering and design.

There is no doubt that Formula One racing is a gripping motor sport for those interested in cars, speed, engineering and design. The design of these Formula One cars is crucial to the speed that the car will travel at, but it is also crucial for the safety of the driver.

For this second reason, there are strict design rules applying to all cars in this motor sport and any car that does not abide by the rules is banned from taking part in the races. It is uncommon for car designers to infringe these rules because the price of driving in a race and the benefits from doing well are massive.

Having said that, Formula One car racing teams push the design features of their cars up to the limit. The key to gaining maximum speed and maximum fuel efficiency is having as aerodynamic a design as possible. These cars are as well designed as any fighter jet, but the foremost difference is that fighter jets are meant to leave the ground whereas cars are not.

Therefore, another vital part of the design is creating down force to hold the tyres firmly on the ground. It is vital for several reasons for the tyres to have a decent grip on the track. Without this grip or traction, the car cannot accelerate, and without it they cannot come to a stop either. Therefore down force and tyres are a major factor in speed and safety.

The brakes are extraordinary as well as you can guess. They are in essence the same as those used in stock road cars, but the components are rather extraordinary. because they have to work and stay working at high speeds, this means that they produce high temperatures.

Ordinary metal would buckle or even melt, so high quality carbon fibre composite disk brakes are utilized instead in conjunction with brake pads of special composites which are frequently extremely secret. There are a lot of jealously guarded secrets in the designs of modern Formula One racing cars.

The foremost part of a racing car is the monocoque, which is the section that holds the engine and the driver. The car’s suspension is also mounted on the monocoque so it is clear that it has to be very strong. This strength is normally gained by constructing it from carbon fibre. There are also many safety features built into the monocoque for the benefit of the driver.

The engine has to be light-weight, efficient but powerful, which is a very tall order indeed. There is now also an FIA ruling that the engine has to last for at least one race weekend. Engine failure is the main cause of pulling out of a Formula One race early. The gearbox suffers just as much in a fast race. Another rule states that all gearboxes have to be manual – no automatic gearboxes. This adds to the wear and tear.

The suspension is manually adaptable so that it can be fine-tuned to each race track and the conditions existing on a race track at any given time. The suspension is not there for the comfort of the driver but to increase the likelihood of the car winning.

Unless you are a aficionado of racing cars, there is a decent chance that you have not heard of Formula D Racing. Formula D has its adherents of course, yet it is still not as commonly known as the other kinds of racing like Formula One, Drag Car Racing, NASCAR or Cross Country Rallying. This is partly because it is a pretty new form of car racing.

Each year the national television coverage is a bit more widespread, but it is taking a long time to prise some of the airtime away from the more established sports. Once you have seen a competition though, the chance is that you will become hooked on this exciting sport that they have called Formula D.

The ‘D’ in Formula D stands for ‘drifting’ which is another name given to the sport. Drifting refers to the angle of the car with reference to the sides of the road at any given moment. Drifting through bends allows the car to maintain its highest possible speed in a bend. Drifting sounds natural and therefore commonplace, yet it is actually very hard to do well.

Drifting takes skill and plenty of practice. Drivers are judged partially on their talent at drifting. There are in fact two aspects of Formula D or two types of drifting. There are the traditional style qualifying runs and there are also tandem battles. Qualifying runs involve the driver racing solo flat out against the clock, drifting as necessary to maintain the highest speed they can.

However, tandem runs involve two car drivers who are being judged on their skills at outsmarting the other driver. The judges are looking for the line of drift, the speed of the cars, overtaking, collisions and much more. Driving in the tandem runs definitely sorts the men out from the boys.

Formula Drifting grew up a little chaotically, yet there have been major attempts to control it. At the moment the Formula Drift Championship is the only professional drifting championship that is authorized by SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Pro Racing in the United States, although there are often amateur local drifting competitions held unofficially.

There needs to be more officially authorized races so that standards are maintained and each driver follows the same set of rules. This is the only way that the TV stations will pick up on drifting and help advertise it more. Drifting is new to the United States, but the first Drifting Races took place in 2004, so not all that long ago anyway. It is still very much a new sport.

At the moment the country where Formula D is most well-liked is Japan, yet that is to be expected to change when the American media gets to grips with Drifting. At the moment it is still not that simple to watch drifting events unless you live in California, Washington, Georgia or New Jersey and it is still not simple to watch it on TV unless you can watch G4TechTV, which is commonly known as G4.

Do you like drawing or painting? If so, have you ever considered drawing or painting cars? You may even be able to earn some money out of it. Young drivers love their first car and older drivers love their flashy cars. You could sketch their cars and then sell the sketches to them or offer to create a painting from your sketch.

The good thing about drawing cars is that whilst they are still, they are perfectly still and they do not change their outline or colour like humans change their expressions, stances and clothes. In fact, it would be fairly easy to compile a collection of sketches of fairly exotic cars as well – cars that most people could never even hope to own.

So, how would you go about doing that? Well, the first thing to do is make a decision which sort of cars or vehicles you want to draw. That normally equates to the kind of cars that you find beautiful. You might like vintage, classic, sports or racing cars. Or drag or Formula One or luxury cars or any other type.

Granted some of these types of cars are not easy to observe unless you live in a big city, but you may find a way around that. You may be able to create some excellent drawings from decent photos, videos, manufacturers’ advertisements or Internet promotions. See You Tube.

The thing that you have to do, by whichever means you have accessible to you, is familiarize yourself with your topic. Just as early painters used to become concerned with autopsies in order to understand the underlying bone yet muscle structure, so should the aspirant drawer of cars study the fundamental structure of cars.

All cars are in essence the same, just as all humans are in essence the same, yet each body is different and every make of car is different as well. Start with the general and work your way towards the specific. In other words, familiarize yourself with the fundamentals of cars and then the particulars of the model that you would like to draw.

If you are already an experienced sketcher, I do not want to tell you how to suck eggs, yet if you are just starting out, I would like to give you some pointers.

Make your initial sketches fairly simple. Begin by drawing fundamental shapes: most cars are oblong with squarish side windows and oval front and back windows. Once you have a basic shape, you can start trying to add some details.

Do not become worried around going over your initial lines in order to create the shapes more realistic. When you begin, your car may look as if it is emerging from a fog, yet the next time you draw a car, the lines will be better yet more accurate from the start.

The key thing is not to become worried about making mistakes and only listen to critics who have tried drawing themselves.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on several topics, but is now concerned with how to compare tyre prices.

Basically, hybrid electric cars have two engines: a conventional petrol or diesel engine (the same as you would see in any contemporary car and an electric, battery powered engine, as you may find in a milk float or a forklift truck. The magical difference is that the car’s on board computer judges which engine is necessary to provide the power required by the driver and turns it on.

Therefore, if you are accelerating to cruising speed for motorway driving; going up hill or overtaking, the car will almost certainly use its liquid fuel engine and then as you ease off the accelerator to, say, cruise down the motorway; go down the other side of the hill or to drive in heavy traffic, the computer will turn off the liquid fuel engine and turn on the electric engine.

The electric engine can be regarded as free to run, because it runs off batteries which are recharged by the car while it is using petrol or diesel and at some other times, such as whilst it is braking (and the alternators are recharging in both modes). You should never need to recharge your car’s batteries overnight as they do with forklift trucks.

There are in essence two kinds of hybrid cars: the semi hybrids and the full hybrids.

The semi hybrids have the same sort of set up: two engines, one running on liquid fuel and the other running on batteries, but the electric motor is not capable of running the car on its own. It is there to ‘assist’ the petrol or diesel engine.

In this type of hybrid, the electric motor is known as an ‘assist’. These semi hybrids will save money on fuel, but whilst the car is moving, you are burning fuel all the time.

The biggest difference when it comes to the full hybrid is that both engines are capable of powering the car independently. Whilst you are running on electricity, you are running at zero cost to your wallet and at zero expense to the environment, unless you are really pushing the car and then both engines may be working in union.

This switching of power sources is done robotically without any intrusion from the driver. In the case of the Prius, for example, this extraordinary achievement is accomplished by what Ford calls its Hybrid Synergy Drive. Other businesses have their equivalent to the HSD.

In order to get the most out of these full hybrids, you actually need to be doing an ‘average amount’ of driving under ‘average’ or ‘mixed’ circumstances. For instance, if you are driving in traffic, the car will try to use the electric engine, but if all you do is drive in inner city traffic jams the batteries will soon become depleted and you will be driving on liquid fuel all the time, which sort of negates the main reason for spending a great deal extra on a hybrid in the first instance.

The car needs to travel on open motorways in order to recharge its batteries so that it can use them when it gets back into town. If you only drive in town traffic, you might be better off getting a small run about instead.

A lot of people are very concerned about privacy and security issues regarding GPS auto navigation systems. This does not only involve your in-car sat nav, but also portable devices such as your cell phone.

A lot of people are very concerned about privacy and security issues regarding GPS auto navigation systems. This does not only involve your in-car sat nav, but also portable devices such as your cell phone.

These days the majority of people can be tracked one way or another, whether it be by their cell phone, their GPS auto navigation system or an RFID tag that was sewn into a shirt they purchased last month at a superstore.

Some people do not care about this state of affairs, some deplore it, but most people are not even conscious of it. It is hard to avoid being tracked. It is often stated that anyone walking around London carrying out his or her routine daily life these days, shows up on a closed circuit TV screen about 300 times every day.

However, there are benefits. If I was being mugged in London, I would hope that someone could see me on a screen and send the police or if I was hiking and I fell and broke my leg, I would be pleased that the rescue personnel could track me because I was using a GPS enabled cell phone.

Luckily, there are fairly strict laws in place in most Western countries restricting what can be done with the intelligence gathered from GPS auto navigation systems. The problem is that everyone believes that governments break the law and can change them to suit themselves whenever they want. No-one trusts politicians. Not even politicians.

This creates a massive dilemma for a lot of people and in particular parents of young children. Do you enable the tracking options of a GPS enabled cell phone so that you or your child can be found if lost or injured or are you scared that that information may be misused by a criminal of some sort – a kidnapper or a child-molester?

None of us really knows what our governments are up to or capable of, but we are being wound up by movies and books about the widespread invasion of our privacy and what clever people can do with the information that is floating around us in the ether.

In reality, we have all given up a lot of the privacy that our grandparents took for granted, but the apparent risks to society are greater these days, although 9/11 could have happened to the Empire State Building 80 years ago and anthrax could have been released on London or New York 100 years ago. People do not have to have high technology to bring out atrocities. Look at World War One or Rwanda.

GPS and auto navigation systems are good things. They help you remain aware of where your dear ones are and give you the peace of mind that if they get into trouble they will have a better chance of getting out of it.

The information gathered by these GPS auto navigation systems can be used in the wrong way, that is undeniable, but at the moment it probably is not. However, employing GPS auto navigation systems can help keep you and your family secure.

Energy consumption is a challenge that car users face, because whether you like or not, the more energy you use when driving your car, the more money you will have to spend for the fuel. Aside from that, failure to practice good driving habits can shorten the life of your car, and that too can cost you some cash for repair and maintenance. By getting rid of your bad driving habits and practicing essential car tips, there’s no doubt you’ll lessen your expenses and save more.

An important rule you must put in mind when buying a car for the first time is to only choose a car that fits your lifestyle. There is absolutely no point in buying an expensive sports car if you have no need for it. In case you don’t know, the larger the car, the more difficult and expensive it is to maintain. Therefore, remain practical and buy only what you exactly need.

In case you already have your car for years now, get the most out of it by practicing good driving habits. Most drivers ignore this very important factor and end up with their pockets empty due to inefficient fuel use. One example of a good driving habit is using your car only if there is a really important need for it. If you’re destination is only a few blocks away and you can probably reach it by foot without hassle, you might as well walk and save your car’s fuel.

If you’re driving at a fast rate most of the time, it would be best if you keep your use of air condition to a minimum. If possible, turn the air condition on in the first few minutes of your driving and when it starts to get cool, you can turn it off to save energy. Avoid pulling your windows down too while driving really fast since the drag can cause the car to exert extra effort and use up extra energy.

Have your car checked on a regular basis and when doing so, make sure you focus on your car’s oil. Air intake vents should also be checked for blockages as clogged air filter can only increase your fuel consumption. Check the tires’ alignment as well. Misalignment can cause engine drag and can result to waste of fuel.

If you’ve had your car for a long time, making these changes will let you appreciate how much you can save compared to when you were still stuck to your old driving habits. Aside from helping you save both fuel and money, these tips can also help maintain your car’s top performance and ensure your safety while on the road.

So, you’re thinking about escaping the rough life here in the city and take a long relaxing roadtrip with your friends? Well, here are some of the things you need to prepare first to keep your roadtrip safe and secure.

Be sure that your car is in full condition before you set out for your roadtrip. Have a mechanic to check everything and if he finds that the engine needs fine tuning, then you need to do. You would not want to get on the road with a nasty engine.

Take all non-essential things outside your car to make room for your bags and other important things. When packing, you need to focus more on your clothes and essentials.

Prepare certain papers that you would need when you cross states or countries. Your license as well as your insurance should be updated so that you will not have any run-ins with the law when you travel.

The reason why people get lost so easily when they go on a roadtrip is because they do not have any maps with them. You are going out to a place where you have no idea and the only thing to help you is a map. Grab one and make sure not to lose it.

Plan your every move during your trip so you can budget your time accordingly. Whether it is to stop by for breakfast or just plain picture taking of great sceneries, plan everything and stick to it. If you do break away from the schedule, try whatever you can to get back on the schedule the following day and make up for lost time somehow.

Always be prepared in case of an emergency. Pack medicines and other materials needed to keep you healthy during your entire trip. The last thing you get yourself into is to get sick while on the road.

Charge up the volume on your car’s speakers while you are on the road and sing along. Ask your friends to bring good tunes to make the trip less boring.

In uncertain economic times, the last thing consumers want is to spend a small fortune on premium fuel when filling up their cars. Another benefit of driving a greener car is conserving the environment for future generations; the ozone layer is getting thinner by all the gasses our vehicles put out into the air. Contrary to popular belief, many of these cars are actually within financial reach for most buyers.

One hybrid that almost everyone is familiar with is the Toyota Prius. This vehicle is also popular with many celebrities; Cameron Diaz and Leonardo Dicaprio have been photographed driving one. It runs on an electric engine with 134 hp and a four cylinder 1.8 traditional engine. There are three different driving modes the driver can select from; Eco, Power and EV. MSRP is around twenty thousand dollars.

Honda is a brand that is associated with reliability and dependability and the same applies to their hybrid Civic. It is powered by both a four cylinder engine that works together with an electric motor. The traditional engine shuts off by itself when not in use; a smart use that helps to conserve fuel. The Civic Hybrid qualifies as an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission vehicle due to its low emissions and comes with a fifteen year or 150k mile warranty on emission parts. This compact vehicle is priced to sell around $24k.

If you thought the Fiesta was a hit, the Super Fuel Economy package increases mileage. Mileage is excellent since it can hit up to 40 mpg when cruising down the highway! These are some swell numbers that are sure to save you lots of dollars. Ford Motor’s intuitive Sync system can be installed which allows you to dial out calls and change the music by just using your voice. That way you don’t have to fiddle with buttons or use your smart phone when driving (which is illegal in many states). Ford San Bernardino has a large selection of vehicles for sale in Palm Springs and Riverside.

The government is planning to seriously limit car emissions and giving individual states more power to limit gas emissions. This is a step which will greatly impact the automotive industry. By the year 2020, new vehicles will need to meet the 35 mpg mark. Choosing to drive an efficient vehicle is not only a positive step on a personal level but also on the national and global level.

Written by Sasha Dior – For great prices check out Riverside Honda for a large selection of vehicles for sale in Riverside.

In the first part of this short series on how to make money buying and selling used cars, we looked at what personal traits someone wanting to be profitable in this business would need to have. In the second part we looked at the best places to locate such a business; in the third we looked at sourcing our stock – our cars or trucks and in this section, we will look at valuing that stock.

Whether you obtain your cars or trucks from auctions or from private individuals, you will have to be able to work out their value accurately, so, how do you determine the value of used vehicles? The simplest way to know a vehicle’s typical market, trade-in or wholesale value is to subscribe to a car dealers’ used car guide. Most western countries have one, but in the USA the most used one is called the National Automobile Dealers’ Used Car Guide or N.A.D.A.

NADA not only publishes monthly guides to second-hand cars, it also publishes monthly guides on older or classic cars, smaller boats, larger boats, SUV’s, mobile homes, RV’s, snow mobiles and motorcycles. Look them up on the Internet and join their subscription list for the types of vehicles that you are interested in.

These used vehicle guides normally include foreign or imported cars nd trucks as well and are a consensus of sales and auctions over the whole country, therefore a little local intelligence is indispensable as well as your area may operate at slightly above or slightly below the national norm, which could present you with further chances for (wholesale) sales by shipping cars into or out of your district.

Sometimes or in some areas, a permit is necessary to run a used car business. This is nothing more than tax by another name usually, so simply requires you to pay a fee. In other regions, it may be a way of weeding out dishonest traders and may require an test of same kind, so it is worth checking your district’s requirements before you start trading.

Some districts have laxer laws than others on buying and selling second-hand cars, allowing ‘occasional sales’. ‘Occasional sales of motor vehicles’ is usually deemed to be no more than five sales in a twelve month period.

When you are starting out you can make use of this allowance, if your region allows it, to keep your operating costs down to a minimum in the costly early days of setting up your business, but once you see yourself exceeding this maximum quantity you should submit an application for a license straight away to avoid incurring any penalties. These penalties can be harsh ranging from a fine to disbarment from trading, so be very careful.

You will also have to learn how to collect taxes from your sales and your wages to yourself and to your employees. You will also have to learn how to hand these monies over to the right authorities on time, although your accountant or book-keeper can assist you there.

Owen Jones, the writer of this article writes on various topics, but is now busy with entry door locks.
