Key Information On Buying Cars

by Alex Smith on December 13, 2009

Welcome to the wonderful world of cars. As most people know, they are one of the major purchases we will make during our lifetime. We want to be diligent in that purchase. Before making that purchase for the first time I would suggest doing some research. There are many wonderful online resources for this.

Before jumping in with both feet nail down a few things first. Look around and find a few (maybe 2-3) vehicles that call to you and what you are looking for. See if they are within your budget. Will you need or have a down payment. Any money that you put down can only help to lower those monthly payments. Find out which manufacturer you like as well as the model you like. Do a budget and make sure you can afford to pay for what you want. You have to be realistic and not get caught in a net. It is hard work, but can pay off for you in the end.

When you are ready to go in, make sure you are prepared. Shopping can be stressful but fun at the same time. They give you a price, you come back with another, back and forth. It can be exhilarating. Also be aware that the sales person job is to sell. They will try to sell you everything but what you want and asked for. Don’t sweat it or let it get to you. That’s their job. Your job is to so no thank you and get them back to where you want to be. In that ride of your choosing, in or under budget.

Go in bright-eyed and bushy tailed first thing. This is a long, drawn out thing. You need to be alert with all those juices flowing. Bringing a friend along who has been there before can help. Leaving any children at home can also help. This can be a long, exhausting day for all involved. By the end your emotions can be drained.

For the first time buyer know going in that you will also need extra funds for insurance. You cannot drive off the lot without it. So know in advance, if possible, your insurance broker number. Shop around and find the best possible rates for you. If you know the type of vehicle you will buy, that’s even better.

One last note is that you can also shop around for your own financing. Do not feel you have to be financed through the dealer or use any of their financing companies. Your bank and/or credit union will usually work with you. Depending on how long you have been a customer with said bank/credit union, you can probably get a better deal as far as your percentage rate.

Get ready to go out there and face the world. Be strong, be firm, stand by your decision and you cannot go wrong. Take the time to do the research. Find deals on a couple of different cars you may be interested in and happy hunting!
