There is a lot of competitive and cutthroat marketing out there today and the automobile rental industry is no exception. There are deals everywhere and it is hard to know when you’re getting the deal you really need or the one that will save you the most money.

This also applies to car rentals, nowadays, it’s hard to call anything a cheap car rental, with the inflation rate of products, continuing gas price increase it’s hard to keep product prices down, so here are a few tips to keep your car rentals cheap, even if every other factor is making it expensive.

1. Rent your vehicle and make your reservation over the internet. These offer the best deals and you can have the time to esquire about special deals that may apply to you. There are internet-only specials that you can only get by reserving a car through the net.

2.One way to get cheap car rentals is to try to get the most out of your rental. Most car rentals require you to fill the tank when you return it, so on your way to returning the rented car, fill it up with the cheapest type of gas you could find, you’ll save more than when they make you pay for the gas at an inflated rate.

3.If you can, always rent at only one Car Company, companies give you cheap car rentals for frequently renting their cars, discounts, coupons and sometimes even miles.

4. See if it is possible to exchange frequent flyer miles with automobile rental miles. It’s an especially good deal when your frequent flyer miles are about to expire and you don’t have enough miles for a flight.

5. Make your automobile reservation as soon as possible because many of the car rental places give you a discount if you reserve far in advance of your needs.

6. Go to the rental place to pick up your car as early in the am as possible. This will give you the greatest likelihood of being able to get an upgrade for free. This is because the rentals from the previous day haven’t arrived yet so there is going to be a shortage of economy cars, to your advantage.

7. Look for fly/stay/drive packages or similar packages through your travel agent or the internet as you will get a much cheaper car out of the deal. You’ll pay for the entire package at once and the actual price of the car will be much cheaper overall.

8. The internet offers sites in which you can list the price you’re able to pay and will match you to a company that will rent you a car at this price. Make sure that you check on the quality and history of the company you are renting with because not all are as reputable as you would like them to be. Make the reservation only after you are sure of the company’s reputation.

9. If you need the vehicle for more than five days, pay for the weekly rate, which is often cheaper than a daily rate. With a weekly rate, the sixth and seventh days are often provided free or at a discount so you get more car for less.

10. Don’t pick up the car at the airport as you’ll have to pay an airport surcharge. Pick it up at another place instead.
